1. The Vehicle & OEM Challenge
Tesla Model Y vehicles present unique engineering challenges for high-power aftermarket audio upgrades. Modern Model Y vehicles utilize a 16V lithium low-voltage auxiliary electrical system rather than traditional 12V lead-acid batteries, requiring specialized voltage monitoring and relay isolation to avoid triggering factory MCU system fault alerts. Additionally, the owner required heavy low-frequency output for electronic and acoustic tracks without losing any usable trunk cargo capacity for luggage or family gear.
2. Custom Engineering & System Design
Audio Matrix technicians constructed a custom 5-layer fiberglass sealed enclosure contoured to the floor of the Tesla Model Y lower sub-trunk space. The enclosure housing an Audison Voce 12-inch dual-voice-coil subwoofer is powered by an Audison mono amplifier fed by an isolated 16V high-current power harness. 2. Tesla 16V Low-Voltage Electrical Isolation
Using an automatic high-current low-voltage relay system, we tapped into the Tesla 16V auxiliary power circuit with 4-gauge Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) power cable. This guarantees high-current delivery for the 1,000W RMS Audison mono amp while keeping the Tesla main computer and 400V traction battery completely isolated.
3. SoundSkins Pro Acoustic Trunk Treatment
Electric vehicles lack engine noise to mask interior cabin panel rattles. We lined the entire trunk floorboard, rear wheel arches, and lower sub-trunk wall with SoundSkins Pro 3-in-1 acoustic dampening material, dropping rear road noise while maximizing bass impact.
4. Audison DRC Digital Bass Level Control
We flush-mounted an Audison DRC digital remote bass controller inside the center armrest storage pocket, allowing the driver to fine-tune subwoofer output level on the fly for different music genres.

Will installing a subwoofer in my Tesla Model Y affect battery range?
No. The audio amplifier draws power exclusively from the 16V low-voltage auxiliary system. Power draw from audio playback is negligible compared to the high-voltage traction battery driving the electric motors.
Can I still use the lower sub-trunk storage area?
The sub-trunk enclosure is flush-mounted inside the bottom well. The original factory cover lid folds back on top flush, leaving 100% of your main trunk floor space completely open for luggage.
