Project Summary
Built a high-output underseat subwoofer and Audison amplifier system for a 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew. Delivers explosive low-end punch while keeping the rear seat folding functionality completely intact.
1. The Vehicle & OEM Challenge
Truck owners face severe space constraints when installing subwoofers. The client wanted hard-hitting bass and clean high-volume amplification without taking up rear seat legroom or cargo space.
2. Custom Engineering & System Design
Audio Matrix custom-fabricated a heavy-duty down-firing enclosure that fits underneath the rear bench seat of the F-150. Powered by Audison Thesis amplifiers and supported by an Optima YellowTop AGM battery upgrade to prevent headlight dimming.
3. Step-by-Step Technical Installation Breakdown
1. Custom Down-Firing Underseat Enclosure
We CAD-designed a custom 1.6 cu ft enclosure contoured to the floorboard of the F-150 SuperCrew, wrapped in OEM-matching black carpet.
2. Electrical System & Big 3 Upgrade
To support 1,500W RMS power draw, we upgraded the battery to an Optima YellowTop D34/78 and replaced factory charging wires with 1/0-gauge Oxygen-Free Copper cable.
4. Real-Time Calibration & Post-Installation Results
Vicious bass response extending cleanly down to 24Hz with zero distortion and zero headlight flicker, preserving full utility of the rear cabin.
Installation FAQs for This Project
Can I still fold down the rear seats in my F-150 after this subwoofer install?
Yes! The custom enclosure is built specifically to sit underneath the rear bench seat without interfering with seat folding mechanisms.
