Project Summary
Integrated a high-end Helix DSP and Audison speaker upgrade into a 2023 Lexus IS 500 while retaining 100% of the factory touchscreen, navigation, and Mark Levinson dash aesthetics.
1. The Vehicle & OEM Challenge
The client loved the naturally aspirated V8 performance of the IS 500 but found the factory audio lacking clarity, imaging, and low-end authority. However, replacing the Lexus factory touchscreen was not an option due to integrated HVAC and vehicle telemetry controls.
2. Custom Engineering & System Design
We utilized an iDatalink Maestro AR module to intercept the flat digital audio signal directly from the Lexus head unit before factory EQ compression. The signal was processed by a Helix DSP Ultra, feeding Audison Voce components mounted in factory locations behind original grilles.
3. Step-by-Step Technical Installation Breakdown
1. Factory Signal Extraction without Splicing
Using vehicle-specific T-harness adapters, we extracted pure uncolored audio from the Lexus CAN-bus system, preserving steering wheel controls and voice prompts.
2. Door Panel Acoustic Treatment
We lined the Lexus aluminum door shells with SoundSkins Pro 3-in-1 acoustic dampening, lowering ambient cabin noise floor for maximum dynamic range.
3. 31-Band Parametric DSP Tuning
Our master tuner calibrated channel arrival time delays and frequency crossover points using real-time measurement microphones, creating a wide front center soundstage.
4. Real-Time Calibration & Post-Installation Results
Crystal-clear vocal staging floating directly above the dashboard, effortless power dynamics, and zero impact on factory Lexus screen menus.
