A powerful audio build can consume hundreds of additional amperes of current, and a standard flooded lead-acid battery simply cannot keep up. The Problem with Standard Batteries
Factory flooded lead-acid batteries are designed for engine starting — a large burst of current for a fraction of a second, followed by recharging from the alternator. They are not designed for sustained high-current draw. When your amplifiers hit loud transients — drum hits, bass drops — they pull enormous current spikes from the battery. A standard battery struggles to deliver this, causing:
- Voltage sag — the system voltage drops momentarily, causing amplifiers to clip and distort

Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries like the Optima YellowTop D34/78 use a fundamentally different internal construction. The electrolyte is absorbed in glass mat separators rather than pooled as liquid. This gives AGM batteries several critical advantages:

The Complete Electrical Picture
For high-power builds above 1,000W total system power, a single upgraded battery often isn't enough.
